Rod and Marilyn Lambertz
Born and raised near Eugene, Oregon with two older brothers and a younger sister. I graduated from Columbia Christian College (AA Degree) in 1966. I went one year to Pepperdine, where I met my future wife, Marilyn Lafferty. We transferred to Oklahoma Christian College and graduated in 1968. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Math. I taught in the High School in Okarche, Oklahoma while Marilyn finished college in the fall semester. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. Marilyn and I were married in December, when she finished school. I entered the Air Force in January, going to Officer’s Training School in San Antonio, Texas, followed by a year of Pilot Training in Enid, Oklahoma.
After Pilot Training, I flew the C-130 for seven years. My first assignment was to Taiwan, where I flew into Vietnam each month. Marilyn and four month old daughter Angela, joined me for one year of my 15 months in Taiwan. It was a wonderful learning experience to live in another culture. We then spent several years in North Carolina at Pope Air Force Base. I finished my 10 year Air Force career flying the T-39 Sabreliner at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio.
Leaving the Air Force, we moved to Aurora in late 1978 when I started working for Frontier Airlines. In 1985, I began a 21 year career at United Airlines, retiring as a B-767 Captain in January 2006. Since, August of 2006, I have been working part-time as a school bus driver for Cherry Creek Schools.
Marilyn has worked as a teacher, secretary at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Church Secretary, owner/operator of a transcription service, a video production service, a Creative Memories Consultant, and a photographer.
We have two daughters, Angela and Paige, who are both married. Both of our daughters have three children, and their families are very active in the Church. Angela's oldest has graduated from Harding and married. Her two younger brothers are both attending Harding now (2013). Paige's three are in High School, Middle School, and Elementary.
Marilyn and I have served in many capacities in the Church. In Ohio, we ran a Joy Bus Program.
We are founding members of Southeast. We are currently working with the teen program with our daughter (Paige) and her husband Thomas. Marilyn has taught all grade levels through Women’s classes, served as a videographer, photographer, building decorator, with the Food Bank, and other services whenever needed. I have taught from about 4th grade through adult classes. I enjoy working around the building. I have served as a Deacon and now as an Elder.
I keep praying that I can get it right.
